If you're reading this article you're probably interested in learning more about Legato Liquid Linoleum, and you've come to the right place.  When you think of flooring, a poured floor might not come to mind, but it's worth learning about to see if it could be the right solution for you. Legato is a new sustainable flooring product for the market and is relatively new product for us at Mannington Commercial.

Legato Liquid Linoleum has a wide breadth of practical uses. It is popular for healthcare, government, education, retail and assisted living applications.

It can be installed in applications  that require the benefits of infection control, Red List free ingredients, as well as stain, scuff and scratch performance – traits that go above and beyond that of a traditional linoleum thanks to its seamless installation and Quantum Guard Elite® technology.

There’s a right product for a right place, and I would say that each product in our portfolio has the right place for the right customer. But, I think these sustainability-oriented attributes put Legato in a category by itself versus our own portfolio as well as competitive products.

If you've got questions about liquid Linoleum or poured floors we've got answers for you. Below is a compiled list of frequently asked questions.

Legato Liquid Linoleum FAQs:

Question:

For a repair, can facilities handle this process, or will a Legato installation specialist need to come out for that process?

Answer:

In terms of repairs, at least for the first few, a trained Legato installer needs to do the work. It’s not complicated, but it will require some training to make sure it’s done properly.

Q:

Traditional linoleum will fade from prolonged sun exposure, is that the case with this product as well? If so, how is color matching handled when patching is required?

A:

There is some initial change to product when exposed to lots of sunlight. It’s really in extreme conditions, however. If the repair is exposed to the same condition it should change over a short time frame in the same direction. No repair will be invisible but will look better than any sheet or tile product repair.

Q:

What is the level of acceptable moisture on slab for install, and when measured to be too high, how is that mitigated?

A:

As a starting point, we lead with “all slabs need to be mitigated”. However, when ProSolutions gets out to the job, with the selected flooring contractor, if the slab shows very low signs of moisture through testing, we can discuss options to skip mitigation. Almost every moisture mitigation out there is acceptable, but again it would be good to consult with ProSolutions prior to making the selection to ensure that it will be a compatible solution.

Q:

Is it possible to get pricing information to include install / 3 days of labor?

A:

ProSolutions is quoting on a job-by-job basis. They have the material pricing grid and will work with the flooring contractor on the labor piece. Once the Mannington sales rep selects the proper flooring price, we add the labor and present the quote to the customer. For 2,500 square feet and above, the $9-$14 per square foot price is a starting point. If it’s under that in terms of square footage, the labor (at least 4 installers regardless of job size) can drive the per square foot price up on those smaller installs.

Q:

Why does it take three days install?

A:

This is after the subfloor is prepped. Once the floor is prepped (smooth and moisture mitigation), Day 1, primer and flooring, Day 2 Urethane, Walking traffic on day 3. Subfloor prep is critical piece to this and must be ready to go on day one. That means fully cured. That may take 1 day, it may take 2-3 depending on what needs to be done.

Q:

How do we deal with existing soft surface carpet and hard surface removal?

A:

In terms of take up, it would be the same as any other hard surface install flooring preparation.

Q:

Can we go over existing floors? If so, what are the floor prep requirements?

A:

We can go over existing, but the prep still must be flat, dry and smooth as usual. Never ideal however because we never know what is under the existing floor covering.

Q:

What do we need to use for leveling, floor patch, skim requirements?

A:

Pretty much anything that is industry standard product is acceptable. Our tech support team through ProSolutions will consult as decisions are made.

Q:

How do we treat deep scratch and gouge repairs?

A:

Repair kits per color are available for each color. Repairs are seamless and not dye lot controlled! One of the best features of Legato. Watch the Legato Repair Video.

Q:

If client elected to change color ten years later, what is the remedy?

A:

There are several options:

1) material can be peeled off floor and new floor installed

2) We can install a second layer of Legato on top of the first. After that second layer, you would need to go to option 1.

3) We have a topical pigmented version of the urethane coating system as an option as well. Think of it like a paint. Only hurdle is that it does tend to wash out the texture/visual of the product otherwise. But it can be used to change the color.

Q:

How is Legato maintained?

A:

Same maintenance instructions as other Mannington hard surface products.

Q:

How do we schedule installation?

A:

Coordination of schedule with Mannington Tech reps leading the work can be done through ProSolutions. They will work with installer to coordinate and schedule.

Q:

Is there a limit to job size & scope requirements?

A:

None right now in terms of size that is too big or too small. May change as we move ahead but no constraints for now.
