Introducing Values in Action: Our look to the future

Screenshot (108) At Mannington, we are understandably proud of our five-generation heritage, but we didn’t get here by looking back. Our company got where it is today by always looking forward, anticipating trends, and planning a strong future for us and our customers.

As our long-time customers know and new customers quickly learn, our core values drive everything we do at Mannington. Above all, we Care, Do the Right Thing, Control Our Own Destiny and Work Hard / Play Hard. That’s why we are proud to detail our environment, social and governance (ESG) initiatives guided by these values in our first, formal corporate responsibility report, Values in Action.

In preparing for this report, Mannington completed the United Nations Global Compact self-assessment, developed to help leading companies align their strategies and operations with important and universal principles on human rights, labor, environment and anti-corruption. Mannington has also taken the bold step of committing to zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. To accelerate our journey to net zero, we are taking steps today to offset 105% of the carbon we produce with our domestically manufactured commercial flooring products.

Carbon offsets are credits companies like Mannington purchase from organizations that remove the same amount of carbon from the environment that we produce in a certain timeframe. In 2022, Mannington offset 36,580 metric tons of carbon dioxide, the equivalent of taking 7,882 cars off the road for one year[1].

While carbon offsets are important in reducing overall global emissions, they do not reduce our actual emissions. As another early step in our corporate responsibility journey, Mannington reported the overall carbon emitted, energy and water used, and waste generated by our operations. This foundational intensity data gives us the insights to introduce lasting change to our supply chain, operations, manufacturing processes and products as we work toward our zero emissions goal.

Values in Action also addresses a number of other aspects of our ESG strategy. Other 2022 report highlights include:

  • 58% of open roles were filled by Mannington associates ready to advance in their careers.
  • More than 95% of Mannington’s commercial flooring raw materials were sourced domestically and less than 5% of its total finished commercial products were produced outside the U.S.
  • All residential and commercial carpet was manufactured domestically, and the company is increasingly onshoring production to bring manufacturing back to the U.S.
  • As part of its 40-year partnership with Habitat for Humanity, Salem County, New Jersey, Mannington provided flooring and volunteer labor to build new houses for neighbors in need.

Our President and CEO, Tom Pendley sums it up best. “Our vision of stewardship is to add value for our associates and their families, customers and communities. Certainly, environmental sustainability is part of this – so are social responsibility and governance. That’s why we’re excited to share our evolving corporate responsibility strategy.”
